Cape Town - A Cape Town community is in shock after a woman killed herself using an angle grinder.

The 33-year-old woman’s shocked boyfriend found her body in their blood-splattered house in Ottery.

A neighbour said it was like a scene straight out of a horror movie.

“There was so much blood... she was lying at the door and the angle grinder was full of blood,” the horrified woman said.

While police do not suspect foul play, mystery surrounds the death of Natasha Jacobs, 33, who apparently committed suicide on Wednesday, on her boyfriend’s birthday.

Neighbours of the couple who live in the Freedom Park informal settlement, in Ottery, say Jacobs was originally from Beaufort West and has an 11-year-old daughter.

Community leader Dennis Bux said Jacobs was a domestic worker who had been living in Freedom Park for about seven years.

Police say Jacobs’s boyfriend, Dino Petersen, discovered her lying dead at the back door just after 9am.

Her neck was slashed wide open, with the blood-splattered angle grinder lying close by.

A trail of blood led from the back to the front door.

A 43-year-old neighbour, who asked not to be identified, said Petersen and a few of his friends returned from the Ottery Centre at about 9am on Wednesday.

“He must have been knocking for maybe 15 minutes and went to the sides of the house and hit on the windows but there was no answer,” she said.

“He jumped over the fence and kicked open the back door.

“Then he shouted to me and another neighbour saying, ‘Come and look what my woman did.’”

The neighbour said that despite all the blood, they still had hope Jacobs was alive.

They looked for a pulse, but she was already dead.

She added that Jacobs had been home alone and had apparently locked herself in.

“We didn’t even hear anything, or hear her screaming,” the woman said.

“I still spoke to her around 8am and she didn’t seem to be like her usual self.

“Normally there are people sitting in their front yard but yesterday (on Wednesday) there was no one.”

Petersen was too emotional to speak on Thursday.

Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed that no foul play was suspected.
