Johannesburg - Metrorail said on Thursday that commuter train services operating in Johannesburg were experiencing delays of up one hour in the morning following infrastructural challenges.

The commuter train operator said Train 0841 had damaged overhead wires at Jeppe Station, which resulted in fibre break affecting Jeppe, Johannesburg, Braamfontein, Langlaagte, and Croesus control signal panels. Trains were delayed from Germiston to George Goch due to overhead power failure.

"Technicians are working hard around the clock to restore the service back to normal," Gauteng Metrorail spokesperson, Lillian Mofokeng said.

"Metrorail management sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and requests commuters to be patient while the repair work is under way. Commuters are advised to use alternative transport to get to their destination where possible."
