King William's Town – Willowvale police have opened an inquest docket after a 23-year-old man died when he was struck by lightning while playing soccer, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
The man was playing soccer with other young people at about 7pm on Saturday evening at Matolweni location, Nqadu village, Willowvale, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
"The deceased, who cannot be named, was in the front of other people when he was struck by the lighting. He died instantly. The identity of the deceased will be made known once all his relatives have been officially informed of his death", Manatha said.
