Eight dead at Cape drinking hole

Eight people were killed at a local drinking hole in Makaza after a staircase collapsed early Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said the Harare police have opened an inquest docket following the incident.

The cause of the deaths was not immediately known.

He added that the eight that were killed were “young women” and were aged between 15 and 23 years old.

“Six injured persons are between the ages of 17 and 24 years old. Of the eight victims, two died en-route to hospital when the vehicle they were transported in was involved in an accident. A culpable homicide case docket has been registered for their death,” Traut said.

The incident happened at about 3am on Sunday morning.
