Port Elizabeth - In his last public bid for the City of Joburg, Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has accused the ruling ANC of “making people vote based on the colour of [their] skin” and “dividing the nation”.

He was speaking at Johannesburg City Hall on Tuesday at the opposition party's final rally before local government elections next Wednesday.

Close to 500 DA supporters were not deterred by cold, wet weather and attended the indoor rally, as the party pushes to secure control of the country's powerhouse.

Among other leaders, DA Johannesburg Regional Chairperson, Khume Ramulifho addressed the crowd, confident that the political party “will win the Johannesburg region.”

Ramulifho added that even though the political party faces challenges, “Difficult as they are, at the end they give us great results. We must always be proud of our processes.”

The DA this morning made it clear that it will not be going for any coalition and they are simply in it “to win it.”

Ramulifho added that “It is very possible that the DA is going to win Johannesburg come the 3rd of August.”
