Pretoria - A recent DA radio advert has sparked controversy among radio listeners and more so among opposition parties.

The advert, aired on Jacaranda FM onThursday night had ANC members in a frenzy, calling for it to be scrapped.

They deemed the advert racist, tribalistic, divisive and dangerous.

The advert follows the nomination of Thoko Didiza, an ANC national executive committee member and former cabinet minister, as mayoral candidate for the capital to replace the incumbent mayor, Kgosientso Ramokgopa.

The 56-second advert reads: “Jacob Zuma and Luthuli House forced a mayoral candidate on the Tshwane ANC.

“Jacob Zuma’s Thoko Didiza will not bring change to Tshwane.

“Zuma’s Didiza, will bring more empty promises, more corruption, and more joblessness to our city.

“How can a person from Zuma’s KZN, put our people first?

“This year is our chance, to make a choice, to put our city first.

“Solly Tshepiso Msimanga, is a true son of Tshwane.

“As mayor of Tshwane, Solly, will put an end to corruption and wasteful expenditure.

“He will create jobs, improve access to housing, roads and water, and stop nyaope and crime.

“Vote Solly Msimanga for mayor! Vote for change! Vote DA!”

But DA’s Tshwane mayoral spokesman Motheo Mtimkulu maintains that there is nothing wrong with the advert.

He said the advert was factual and nothing was untrue or twisted.

“There is absolutely nothing wrong with the advert.

“It does not incite any form of violence or promote any form of racism and tribalism.

“It is simply facts that the ANC do not want to hear,” he said.

Mtimkulu said the DA was ready to take up any party that wanted to challenge it on the advert.
