The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has, with its rhetoric, disqualified itself from helping the country through its economic crisis, the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) said on Friday.

“What we now need is reliable, responsible political leadership to steer the country through the crisis,” CDP leader Reverend Theunis Botha said in a statement.

“The ANC Youth League, with its rhetoric, has by definition disqualified itself from this fold.”

He said league president Julius Malema's call for nationalisation would add to South Africa's economic woes.

“(This) is not the time to add to South Africa's economic woes by drumming up support for nationalisation and other revolutionary objectives, as this can do immense harm to the economy.”

Malema has argued that nationalisation would unite South Africans.

Speaking at the University of Johannesburg on Thursday, Malema said: “Everyone has the right to benefit from wealth in South Africa. Since the debate on nationalisation, every rich family has spoken in defence of their property... all of them, they are in Stellenbosch, the Stellenbosch mafia.”

He said 10 percent of the South African population was white, yet controlled 90 percent of the wealth.

“We want to resolve this. Every generation has a mission. From today, you are the generation of economic freedom fighters.” – Sapa

If Julias Malema considers ''every rich family'' who ''has spoken in defence of their property... all of them, they are in Stellenbosch, the Stellenbosch mafia'' does malema consider himself among the Rich Mafia?

After most of the world has gone down the nationalisation route many years ago and it has failed dismally destroying industry, jobs and communities. How can anyone with half a brain cell justify nationalisation and say it will unite! The future is dismal if this is the future!

The majority of SA-ns have common sense and will not allow a madman to destroy our country. But if Julias does become our leader then chaos will come and all we (black and white middle class) can do is run like chickens.

"Economic Freedom In Our Lifetime" In who's lifetime? Sounds kind of Orwellian to me. The sort of mantra that could be chanted ad infinitum

The only way the youth are going to become economic freedom fighters is to work hard at school and aim for the highest possible marks. Economic freedom does not come through nationalisation, only economic impoverishment. If people don't know how to deal with what they are given they must be taught, and they must work to maintain or develop what they have. Nationalisation is not a quick fix cure for poverty. Many of those whites about whom Malema always talks got where they are through hard work and aiming for excellence. This is a lesson that Malema should also learn, if he is able.
