Concerns about the exclusion of some branches from the ANCYL Limpopo elective conference remained unanswered on Friday, hours before the event was scheduled to start.

Polokwane sub-regional secretary Joel Seabi said the organisers were still waiting for the African National Congress Youth League's national executive committee (NEC) to resolve apparent problems.

“It appears there is division within the NEC; some want to listen to our concern(s) and other(s) are not interested.”

Members and leaders of various branches accused the ANCYL leadership of delaying tactics.

They were being kept out of the conference registration venue, in Polokwane, which was being guarded by the police and traffic police. The conference was expected to start late on Friday afternoon.

“If they are yet to listen to our concerns and registration process is closed, it will means our voice(s) won’t be heard,” said Seabi.

Most branches in the Peter Mokaba region have been excluded, a move which has led to the establishment of a parallel conference.

The region was disbanded after it rejected the re-election of Jacob Lebogo, who was endorsed as provincial secretary by suspended ANCYL president Julius Malema.

In rejecting Lebogo, the region said the ANCYL could not be manipulated and controlled from Seshego, Malema's hometown.

His challenger Eddy Maleka is a member of the Polokwane municipal council and was suspended after he emerged as an opponent of Malema's ally. - Sapa
