Johannesburg - Confusion reigned on Wednesday over whether imprisoned PAC struggle hero Kenny Motsamai will be released on parole.Despite reports that he was expected to be released from prison after serving 27 years there was no word of his release by the Department of Correctional Services.

The department said the parole board was meeting on Wednesday to consider Motsamai’s release on parole.

It said it was not clear when the parole board would make its decision on the matter.

Motsamai was sentenced to two life terms and 19 years in 1989 for the murder of a white traffic officer in Rustenburg.

He was the commander of the Azanian People’s Liberation Army (Apla), the PAC’s military wing, when the incident happened in Rustenburg at the time.

Last year the department released him on day parole.

But Motsamai fought for his release on full parole.

He said the conditional release on parole did not make him a free man.
