Johannesburg - Cosatu has called on President Jacob Zuma to discipline the Mineral Resources Minster Mosebenzi Zwane.

This comes after Zwane made a decision last Friday to publicly present his personal views on the banks no longer allowing the controversial Gupta family's business to bank with them.

Cosatu's Sizwe Pamla in a statement on Monday said the Minister has misrepresented the Cabinet.

“He said that it took a decision to ask the president to consider establishing a judicial inquiry in terms of section 84(2)(f) of the Constitution; with regard to matter between the company and the banks.”

Meanwhile it was Zwane who supported the inquiry.

Pamla said Zwane's “political arrogance and self exaltation” has not only undermined the Cabinet , but raised questions on who called the shots and whether the centre was still holding in government.

“The president needs to act swiftly against the minister and send a clear message that our government is not in disarray, but it’s still intact,” said Pamla.

He said that Zwane's choice of words also gave companies justification to not further invest in the economy.

“This reckless decision by the minister also gives these companies the social licence to openly interfere in political affairs with impunity. The president needs to act and act fast because nature does not allow a vacuum.”
