Cosatu sends condolences to Limusa

Johannesburg - The Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) on Sunday sent condolences to the family of Sifiso Maphumulo, the president of its new affiliate, the Liberated Metalworkers Union of SA who died in a car accident.

Maphumulo died in a car crash near on the N3 near Escourt, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

“Cosatu expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of comrade Maphumulo, the Limusa leadership and workers in general across all sectors of the economy,” the trade union federation said in a statement.

“Maphumulo was working at Toyota South Africa and has served as the Cosatu local Chairperson at Isipingo, Durban, for a long duration.”

Former president of rival metal workers union, the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (NUMSA), Cedric Gina, was one of three passengers in the car. Gina, who is the union’s secretary general, and the three others were injured and treated in hospital.
