The Democratic Alliance wants prominent Durban businesswoman Shawn Mpisane’s company blacklisted and removed from the eThekwini municipality's contractor database, it said on Thursday.
Mpisane faces charges of fraud, forgery and uttering involving R4.7 million. She is out on bail of R50,000 and will appear again in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
She and her husband S’bu Mpisane, a former metro policeman, are known for being super-rich and have a fleet of cars that include a Rolls Royce Phantom and Lamborghinis.
The DA's caucus leader in the municipality, Tex Collins, said the fact that Mpisane had instituted a court action against the eThekwini municipality was proof all was not well.
The Mercury newspaper reported that Mpisane had approached the Durban High Court to force the municipality to lift the suspension of a multi-million rand housing contract.
“We will immediately make a representation to have Mpisane's company blacklisted and removed from the municipal contractor data base once and for all,” said Collins. - Sapa
