Johannesburg - After getting off to a late start, delegates have finally arrived at Gallagher Estate for day one of the ANC Youth League’s first national congress since 2011.

Enthused delegates from Mpumalanga sang, holding posters showing their support for Desmond Moela of the same province, who is a front-runner for the position of deputy president of the league.

Earlier ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said the delay in starting was due to the late arrival of buses meant to transport delegates to the conference venue.

Meanwhile, convenor of the league’s national task team, Fikile Mbalula, said league members who took the ANC to court on Thursday in an attempt to interdict the congress would “face the full wrath of the organisation”.

It appeared to hint they would face disciplinary processes despite Kodwa’s assertion on Thursday that this would not happen.

The court bid was dismissed with costs on the basis of the expense which would be incurred should the congress not go ahead as scheduled.
