Don’t appoint unethical Cabinet - SolidarityComment on this story
Johannesburg - Trade union Solidarity on Tuesday urged President Jacob Zuma to appoint appropriate people to his Cabinet and exclude individuals who have acted unethically.
“Solidarity is of the opinion that the composition of the Cabinet will serve as an indication of how high the ANC rates accountability, ethics, and credibility,” Solidarity senior researcher Eugene Brink said in a statement.
“Ministers are policymakers and hold the purse strings when it comes to tax monies and hence they have a responsibility to act ethically and transparently. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.”
Wednesday will see the first sitting of the fifth democratic Parliament. Members of the National Assembly will formally elect Zuma for a second term after they are sworn in as MPs by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
The announcement of the new Cabinet is also expected to be made on Wednesday. - Sapa
