Johannesburg - Ethekwini residents should not waste their by-election votes on smaller parties, DA leader Helen Zille said in Durban on Tuesday.
“Instead, vote for a growing party with a track record in good governance,” the Democratic Alliance leader told locals while campaigning for the Phoenix and Chatsworth by-elections, according to a copy of her speech.
“Our promise to residents is that if you vote DA in these by-elections we will work day and night for better service delivery in these wards,” she said.
The seats in the two wards in KwaZulu-Natal became vacant after Minority Front councillors Bradley Singh and Ronnie Pillay defected to the DA in April.
“Both these councillors left the MF because they believe the DA is the only party capable of providing the best possible service to residents of these wards,” said Zille.
She said as smaller parties like the MF continued to lose support and fight among each other, the DA was gradually realigning politics in the country.
The by-elections would be held on Wednesday.
