Johannesburg - The EFF member who died after he collapsed outside the High Court in Pretoria was identified as Mack Sekantane Dikgale, the party's Limpopo branch said on Friday.

Dikgale would be buried on March 16, in Seshego, Limpopo, it said in a statement.

“Economic Freedom Fighters sends condolences to his family and friends.”

Party supporters had been singing and chanting on Thursday, carrying placards with anti-Zuma slogans, when Dikgale apparently collapsed.

The members had held a rally outside the court in support of the urgent application against the Independent Electoral Commission.

EFF leader Julius Malema told hundreds of supporters in red regalia that his party would finance Dikgale's funeral arrangements.

“We are going to bury him. His family is not going to pay a cent. We are taking full responsibility. We have lost a friend and a fellow fighter,” he said at the time.

The party has taken President Jacob Zuma, Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor, and the IEC to court.

Political parties are required to pay a deposit of more than R600,000 ÄR45,000 per province, and R200,000 to contest the polls nationally. The EFF is seeking to have this requirement removed or greatly reduced.

Judge Joseph Raulinga reserved his judgment on the matter.
