Johannesburg - South Africans will start paying 9.4 percent more for electricity on Friday, Eskom announced a day after the North Gauteng High Court dismissed with costs the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse's application to scrap the tariff increase.
Eskom Chief Financial Officer Anoj Singh said on Friday that they welcomed the court's decision.

“Eskom is pleased with the decision of the court as this allows us to begin recovering the R11.2 billion revenue as approved by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa,” he said.
“We have cooperated with the legal process and we will continue to do so while also defending the process we have followed in the recovery of costs we incurred in the provision of electricity.”
The tariff increase, which is effective from April 1, is for Eskom's direct customers.
Tariffs for municipal customers would become effective from July 1.
