Johannesburg - Trade union Fedusa commended Justice Minister Jeff Radebe on Monday on an initiative to name and shame government officials convicted of corruption.

“Fedusa [the Federation of Unions of SA] has always been vocal about corruption within government and... it is the public sector officials who must take the high road and set the framework for fair and honest practices in business,” it said in a statement.

“Fedusa commends the minister and his team for taking action.”

On Sunday, Radebe said that within the next few days, the names of people who had been convicted in cases of corruption would be published.

This was being done “so the public will know these rotten apples of South African society”.

Radebe said officials were “working out the details” of whether to use electronic media, newspapers, radio or television to publish the information.

“We want to ensure the public is conscious of what has happened, because for some time, when people talk about corruption, it's just a number. We now want to do this in a meaningful way,” he said.
