Pretoria - Tshwane Executive Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa presented his State of the Capital Address at Freedom Park on Thursday. Here are 20 highlights from the speech...

* Tshwane held its position as the fastest growing city in the country

* 68 townships with about 68 000 stands have been formalised with a budget of R200-million towards the Re aga Tshwane programme

* Mega-projects developed with Gauteng over five years will provide more than 180 000 housing units

* A private developer is providing 16 000 units worth R3.5-billion over seven years in the northern area

* A private developer is providing 14 000 units worth R5-billion over eight years in the Centurion area

* In the next year, 5 000 serviced stands will be delivered by the metro

* 5 355 social housing rental units will be developed over three years

* R50-million will be spent converting hostels to bachelor units

* The city transferred 148 land parcels to churches and the taxi industry

* Release of land on auction raised R190-million to be used for infrastructure

* Once developed, land sold on auction will generate more than R224-million a year in rates

* Tshwane will spend R100-million over the next five years to regularise the informal trade sector in the capital

* The Tshepo 10 000 programme produced 405 co-operatives which contribute to local economic development and empowerment.

* Tshwane Market is expected to have a turnover in excess of R2.6-billion in the coming year

* R100-million will be spent towards the Caledonian Inner City Park

* R152-million is needed towards the East Capital (Cullinan, Bronkhorstspruit and Rayton) industrial green belt plan

* R35-million will be spent developing 23 more parks

* A Re Yeng transported 122 864 people between January and March and the next phase of the route will be operational in November

* The city plans to build 49km of roads in the current financial year

* R50-million has been allocated to combat the scourge of nyaope
