Pretoria - The Independent Electoral Commission’s national results operation centre (ROC) is up and running.

“We are ready and we look forward to a highly successful free, fair and credible election,” said Chief Electoral Officer Mosotho Moepya.

The centre in Pretoria opened on Wednesday afternoon.

President Jacob Zuma toured the centre but didn’t address the gathering.

The ROC is the IEC’s nerve centre for the next 10 days, with IEC officials moving from their offices to the centre for the duration of the election and the count.

It’s where the IEC coordinates and manages the elections, monitoring the voting, checking and resolving complaints, coordinating and collating the results count and finally formally declaring the results.

The centre is used by IEC officials, party officials, international and local election observers, and media, and is part of the IEC’s commitment to transparency.
