Pretoria - Mayor-in-waiting of Tshwane Solly Msimanga has constantly projected himself as a leader who will rid the capital city of corruption and self-serving councillors.

Raised by his grandmother and mother in Jeffsville and partly in Atteridgeville, Msimanga is married to Monde and has two sons.

The 36-year-old politician has until now been DA spokesman for sports and recreation in the Gauteng provincial legislature.

He will resign from the position before taking the oath as executive mayor of the capital city in 14 days, in which time the council will have to congregate and officially elect him in accordance with the regulations.

Msimanga also served on the Education and Economic Development portfolio committees at the legislature, positions he will also relinquish.

A graduate of the DA Young Leaders Academy, Msimanga also holds a national diploma in marketing management and a BCompt degree from the University of Pretoria.

He won’t be stranger to the city council. He previously served as a proportional representation councillor and was caucus chairman in 2014.

Msimanga became an MPL after the last general elections.

Msimanga also wears the hat of DA chairman in the Gauteng North region, which includes the capital city, and had worked in the corporate sector before venturing into politics.

He believes people voted for him because “where the DA governs, we make progress through clean government that gets rid of corruption, attract job-creating investment and generate more money to spend on providing basic services that our communities deserve”.

Msimanga was born on July 16, 1980. He enjoys travelling, reading, music and cooking.

Doing a lot of charity work is one of his passions.

He also heads the “Make Somebody’s Christmas a merry one”, a project he uses do donate groceries to poor families.
