Johannesburg - The EFF’s Economic Freedom March has reached the Chamber of Mines, where Julius Malema said mines must subsidise free education.
A 4-000 strong crowd has been marching through the streets of Joburg CBD.
At the Chamber of Mines, Malema jumped back on to the makeshift stage on the truck to address the crowd.
“You have been stealing from us for far to long. We want our mines and our land back,” said Malema.
“We are here to warn you to stop listening to the ANC and start listening to the EFF. We are the government in waiting,” he said
The memorandum handed over to the Chamber of Mines included:
* Nationalisation of mines
* Minimum wage of R12 500
* Immediate end to retrenchment in mines
* Better houses for mine workers
Earlier marchers stopped at the South Aftrican Reserve Bank, where they handed over a memorandum to the Reserve Bank’s deputy governor. They are set to move to the JSE next.
CBD shops along the route have closed their doors.
Curious onlookers are standing on balconies capturing the scenes on the streets with their cellphones.
