‘New rules our bid to curb child trafficking’

Johannesburg - Child trafficking has become an increasing problem in Africa and the world, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Fatima Chohan said.

“The Department of Home Affairs has the responsibility to act in an endeavour to curb this evil,” she said in a speech in Johannesburg.

“For this reason, we have now put in place various requirements when people travel across our borders with a child.”

Chohan said people would have to get used to the provisions as they were “here to stay”.

The requirements were:

“These provisions form part of our international commitments to root out child-trafficking,” said Chohan.
