Nkandla committee: ANC gave wrong dateComment on this story
Parliament - The ANC chief whip's office at Parliament on Tuesday apologised for putting the wrong date in a statement dealing with the establishment of an ad hoc committee to consider President Jacob Zuma's response to the Public Protector's report on Nkandla.
The statement, issued on Monday, had noted that in terms of National Assembly rules, parties had 10 working days in which to recommend to Speaker Max Sisulu the names of members who would serve on the committee.
“It goes without saying that we will meet that deadline, which is May 23, 2014,” it said.
On Tuesday, the chief whip's office admitted it had made a mistake.
“We mistakenly indicated that the deadline for the submission of recommended names... is May 23, 2014. The deadline is in fact April 23, 2014.
“We apologise for the confusion this error could have created,” it said.
The 12-member committee will, once established, comprise seven African National Congress MPs, two Democratic Alliance MPs, one Congress of the People MP, one Inkatha Freedom Party MP, and one other MP representing the smaller parties. - Sapa
