Johannesburg - Democratic Alliance supporters arrived at Johannesburg's Rand Stadium singing songs of joy and clad in blue party colours on Saturday ahead of the launch of the DA's August 3 local government elections manifesto.

They sang songs praising party leader Mmusi Maimane and revolutionary songs against the African National Congress. “Mmuso wa Zuma ra o wisa... mmuso wa ANC siya wu'chinga... [we are going to remove Zuma... we are going to remove the ANC],” they chanted after disembarking from buses at the stadium.

A woman clutching her son by the hand said she had travelled from Rustenburg in the North West to attend the launch.

“I am here to encourage change... to show my 10-year-old that the DA is the party of the future. That is the message I preach in my household,” said DA member Tumelo Kgotso.

Inside the stadium, the seats were covered in blue. Popular performers, including the Durban Nites, Liquid Deep, Ricky Rick, and Idols SA winner Karabo entertained supporters with music and dance.

Boxes of water bottles were brought in as the heat increased after 10am. Blue seats were placed in front of the huge stage draped in DA slogans with Maimane's face on them.

Later on Saturday, Maimane was expected to present the DA's plans for the local government elections.
