Cape Town - SA Revenue Service (Sars) Commissioner Tom Moyane is to appear before the standing committee on intelligence in Parliament on Tuesday, a well-placed source has revealed.

The committee’s chairwoman, ANC MP Connie September, ordered Moyane this week to answer allegations that Sars had a “covert” intelligence unit and carried out “rogue” spy work.

The claims were rejected by deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay, who was suspended by Moyane because of the allegations.

The claims have also led to a mass exodus of Sars senior executives and the suspension of at least two other senior staff members – head of risk Peter Richer and head of governance Yolisa Pikie.
