All security measures were in place for South Africa's general elections on Wednesday, the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure said.
“As election fever sweeps through the country, the law enforcement can once again assure our communities that all security plans and law enforcement officials are in place,” said Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale.
Five men were arrested for various crimes in the country on Monday when police conducted vehicle and foot patrols, suspect-tracking and stop-and-search operations.
Two men, both aged 30, were arrested for murder in Gelvandale in the Eastern Cape, Makgale said.
A 38-year-old man was also arrested in Gelvandale for attempted murder.
In KwaZulu-Natal, a man was arrested in Greytown for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
“One AK-47 with 10 rounds of ammunition, one pistol with eight rounds of ammunition and one revolver with three rounds of ammunition were seized,” Makgale said.
A Cape Town man was also arrested for the possession of tik.
“These are just a few of the successes our members are reporting from their deployments around the country,” he said. - Sapa
