Cape Town - Ses’Khona People’s Rights Movement has come out in support of their secretary general, Loyiso Nkohla, who recently aligned himself with the DA despite saying the party’s anti-poor and segregation policies gave birth to the organisation.

At a press conference in Khayelitsha on Monday, Ses’khona deputy president Unathi Mabengwana said the organisation had no political affiliation and members were free to join any party.

The organisation cut ties with the ANC after the party’s failure to fulfil promises to the organisation.

“Our decision to cut ties with the ANC was to assist the ANC in managing the confusion and tension created by our alignment with the ANC; we did not expect to be further insulted,” said Mabengwane.

“We call on all our members, supporters and public to resist the temptation to criminalise these members for exercising their rights of political association.

“Equally we remind them of the obvious fact that previously these members were members of the ANC while members of Ses’khona.”

Nkohla, who will remain secretary general until the next conference, said: “The ANC has used us for our votes and has lied to us. We are not fighting the ANC legacy but we need them to deliver now.”

He added Ses’khona members were not angry when he joined the DA and that he was not offered a package to join.

“Ses’khona president, Andile Lili, said he was disappointed over Nkohla’s decision because the movement was formed to expose the DA's policies regarding the poor.
