ND ZUMA COLLAGE 3 (24566360) INLSA A LIFE IN PHOTOGRAPHS: Durban lensman Kevin Joseph shows off the canvas collage celebrating Jacob Zumas 70th birthday. Picture: Jacques Naude

With every photograph representing a year of Jacob Zuma’s life, a giant canvas collage containing 70 unique pictures will be unveiled at the president’s birthday party in Durban on Friday night.

The 70 photographs have all been taken down the years by well-connected city photographer Kevin Joseph, who has presented similar collages to former President Nelson Mandela to celebrate his 91st, 92nd and 93rd birthdays. The 93rd birthday collage was a unique plasma creation.

Joseph was commissioned to do the canvas collage by members of Zuma’s family and the wording at the top and bottom of the picture perfect present says: “To Dad … from your family.”

The photographs were put on canvas and mounted in a 1.9m x 1m ornate silver frame by Natal Art Craft Industries in Gale Street, the biggest picture framers in South Africa.

“And my partners in the graphic industry superimposed the image of the President on the collage,” Joseph explained.

The photographs helping the president to mark his landmark birthday include one picture of all three past presidents together – Mandela, Mbeki and Zuma – as well as the president with other politicians, including Helen Zille and Amichand Rajbansi.

Zuma is also pictured with his wives and family, the ANC hierarchy, KZN premier Dr Zweli Mkhize, and captains of industry, as well as global leaders such as UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, who was snapped with the President at last year’s Cop17 climate change conference in Durban. - Daily News
