Four prominent Eastern Cape politicians have turned to the Grahamstown High Court to try and clear their names after allegations of corruption were made against them in a judicial report, Die Burger reported on Wednesday.

At this stage only Eastern Cape Premier Mbulelo Sogoni had indicated he would oppose the scrapping of the negative references in the report. This was because the investigative judge said he would accept the High Court's review finding, the report read.

Sport Minister Makhenkesi Stofile, former finance and economic affairs MEC Enoch Godongwana, ANC chairperson in the province Stone Sizani and ANC member and former executive of the Eastern Cape Development Corporation Mcebisi Jonas filed papers at the High Court.

The four alleged that former Eastern Cape Premier Nosimo Balindlela leaked certain parts of the Pillay Commission's report to the media without in forming them and to hurt them politically.

Balindlela was removed as premier by the ANC shortly after the report was released.

The Pillay report alleged that the four politicians, in some cases their wives, borrowed money from the provincial development corporation without paying it back. - Sapa
