Pretoria - An elated Tshwane executive mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa tied the knot with his wife Georgia at a wine estate in Paarl in the Western Cape on Sunday.

The two had a traditional wedding in their Atteridgeville home last year, after which the Tshwane first lady was named Mmatabudi in line with the groom’s royal Batlokwa culture.

Ramokgopa has thanked his friends, family and ANC comrades for all the support and counselling.

The ANC Tshwane regional leader also thanked his parents for raising and disciplining him, as well as all the lessons that life prepared him for the second biggest day of his life.

The first, he said, was the day he was born 40 years ago.

Ramokgopa also used the occasion to celebrate his birthday.

“Turning 40 on my wedding is like a double initiation to manhood and responsibility at the same time,” he said.

Tshwane’s first citizens are the success story of an office romance that started in the mayoral office soon after Ramokgopa was elected following the 2011 local government election.

Georgia was the then new mayor’s personal assistant in the Centurion mayoral office.
