Last year The Star reported that Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu said he is "hurting" about the conditions that led to him to say he would not vote if an election was held today.

"I value my vote very deeply. I know what it costs for me to have the vote I am hurting for a country I love deeply and I am trying to do what I can. I am not impotent. This is a cry from the heart," he said.

Tutu made headlines by saying he would not vote in 2009's elections unless the ruling ANC heals its divisions.
