The EFF in Alexandra has warned that it is well prepared to prevent the ANC from “stealing” votes away from the party in the area.

Since the national elections in 2014, the EFF has constantly claimed that the ruling party colluded with the IEC to steal votes from them in the township. However, this has not been proven.

The party’s regional member and councillor candidate for ward 105 said the EFF has positioned party agents so that it would be able to “watch out” for anything suspicious.

“We are well prepared this time our eyes will be open,” Mishack Hlophe told Independent Media on Friday.

“We were robbed. We checked and we found children kicking ballot boxes in the street,” he added.

He warned that his party would not accept the results like it did in 2014.

“We will declare them (the elections) null and void and will expose the truth if anything happens,” said Hlophe.

The claim has been dismissed by the ANC.

The ruling party’s ward councillor candidate, Tefo Raphadu, said that the fact that the EFF did not go through the proper processes such as approaching the Electoral Court was proof the party was lying.

“That is just their (EFF’s) propaganda and attention seeking for elections that’s all, if they had proof they should have done something about it,” said Raphadu.

The EFF believes it will make inroads in the densely populated township, where its base has been growing especially amongst young people.

Most of Alexandra’s wards are ANC run, except a few that are run by the DA because some parts are shared with affluent Sandton.
