Western Cape premier Helen Zille has landed herself in hot water with social media users - again.

A Twitter discussion about land and economy got out of hand when the Democratic Alliance leader pushed back at her critics by becoming personal.

Zille’s comments about a Twitter user’s cornrows unleashed a flurry of criticism from other commentors.

As expected the topic quickly started trending on Twitter.
