Johannesburg -

President Jacob Zuma is concerned about the escalation in costs of security upgrades at his private home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, according to Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba.

On Monday, SABC radio news quoted Gigaba as saying some ANC members, including Zuma, were concerned about the costs of the upgrades.

Gigaba delivered the Solomon Mahlangu memorial lecture in Limpopo at the weekend.

He reportedly said that if Zuma had not had concerns he would not have asked an inter-ministerial team to investigate.

Gigaba was critical of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, accusing her of playing political games, the SABC reported.

In a report, Madonsela found that Zuma and his family improperly benefited from the R246 million security upgrades, which included a swimming pool, a cattle kraal and an amphitheatre. - Sapa
