A foreign businessman has landed a R500-million settlement from the country's Road Accident Fund (RAF) after losing an arm and a leg in a motorcycle accident, the Sunday Times reported.

This record amount, the highest in the fund's 62-year history, and possibly in the world, will be paid to Swiss resident Joachim Schoss by the end of this month, the newspaper said.

This settlement comes nearly six years after a South African motorist, driving on the wrong side of the road, crashed into Schoss, who was on a hired Harley-Davidson between Cape Town and Stellenbosch while on holiday. - Sapa
