Lotto Plus, a new game dreamed up by the National Lottery, kicks in throughout South Africa on Wednesday.

For just R1 an entry, punters have a chance of winning cash prizes up to a million rand, says Lotto's Shenanda Janse van Rensburg.

The first Lotto Plus tickets went on sale on Sunday and, according to early sales indications, Lotto players have reacted positively to the new concept.

Janse van Rensburg explains there are two major differences between Lotto and the new add-on Lotto Plus.

"Firstly, in the new game, the Division Seven prize (for matching three numbers) will be fixed at R7. Secondly, and unlike the normal Lotto, there will be no jackpot rollovers with Lotto Plus. If the main R1-million prize isn't won, the money will be shared equally between Division Two (match five and the bonus number) and Division Six (match three, plus the bonus number).

"If there are no winners in any division, the prize will be shared equally among those divisions with winning tickets. In this case, however, Division Seven will be excluded," says Janse van Rensburg.

Lotto Plus can also be played when you purchase Quickpick or Multi-draw tickets.

The revamped Lotto coupon - with a Lotto Plus box - is already available at regular retail outlets.

To enter Lotto Plus, simply mark the box and your entry's assured - once you pay the extra buck - of course.
