Johannesburg - Collectors now have an archive of the bangles designed to raise money for Nelson Mandela’s Aids charity.
Bangles ranging from standard bronze to a gold and ivory piece encrusted with jewels were also on display during an event to introduce the book at a Johannesburg jewellery store on Thursday.
All the bangles are engraved with 46664, the number by which Mandela was identified when he was a prisoner on Robben Island.
Tokyo Sexwale, a politician and former Robben Island prisoner, says a number that originally signified humiliation “is now for freedom”.
Sexwale, who serves on the board of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, wore a silver bangle at Thursday's event.
The books will not be sold. Copies will be given to bangle collectors. - Sapa-AP
