Cape Town - Charities and welfare NGOs have been reassured that they will still receive funding - even if some of their beneficiaries are white.

Alarm was raised at proposed changes to broad-based black economic empowerment codes - creating fears that any organisation which does not only cater exclusively for black people could be penalised.

This followed the publication of proposed amendments to the Department of Trade and Industry’s Code of Good Practice.

DTI spokesman Sipho Zikode explained today on 567MW Cape Talk that that proposal was for a pro-rata sliding scale - with 100 percent funding for organisations with 100 percent black beneficiaries, and less thereafter.
