A Pretoria businessman accused of defrauding an international musician out of hundreds of thousands of rands was nabbed by private investigators at his hideout in Mpumalanga.

The man, who cannot be named until he has appeared in court, is alleged to have defrauded Belgian musician Dana Winner out of an estimated R600 000.

Winner was due to perform in South Africa in February but was forced to cancel her tour when the organisers allegedly disappeared with the money meant to have been used to book venues, transport and equipment for the performances.

She was due to perform with a number of South African musicians, including Steve Hofmeyr.

Pretoria private investigator Mike Bolhuis on Wednesday said they had tracked the businessman to his hideout in Machadodorp where he has been living for seven months under an alias.

Bolhuis said he had been tasked to track down the man shortly after Winner's tour, which would have seen her performing in Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Nelspruit and Port Elizabeth, was cancelled.

"After months of intensive investigations we were able to track down the man and arrested him in Machadodorp," he said, adding that the man had been charged with fraud.

The arrest comes after one of the organisers handed himself over to authorities in February after police and private investigators launched a countrywide search for him

The man is to appear in court this week.
