Port Elizabeth - Butterworth police in the Eastern Cape have opened an inquest docket after 58-year-old man died in a shack fire.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said the incident occurred on Thursday night in the Silver Town Informal Settlement in Butterworth.
Manatha said it was believed that a fallen candle had caused the fire.
He said the identity of the victim was being withheld until his next of kin had been notified.
