King Williams Town - Police in King Williams Town on Friday said a 29-year-old rapist named as, Thabo Ntshebe, has been sentenced to life in prison by the Zwelitsha Regional Court.
Ntshebe, who raped a 14-year-old girl from Highway, Ndevana, outside King Williams Town, was sentenced on Tuesday.
Police captain Siphokazi Mawisa said Ntshebe attacked the child in July 2015. The accused was arrested and charged for rape in October the same year.
"He first appeared at Zwelitsha Magistrate Court on 19 October 2015 and he was denied bail and remanded in custody. He appeared several times at Zwelitsha Magistrate Court and in July 2015 the case was transferred to Zwelitsha Regional Court," said the captain.
Last week on Thursday the regional court found Ntshebe guilty of raping the teenager.
Police commander, Lieutenant Colonel Zithulele Mahlambeni said the sentence sends a strong message to all would be perpetrators of crime that they will be arrested and brought before court.
