Joubertina -

Two people drowned in farm dams near Joubertina in two separate incidents at the weekend, police said on Monday.

“Booi Kadank, 62 years old, drowned when he went swimming with friends in a dam on Black Ginger Farm in Twee Riviere,” said Lt- Col Priscilla Naidu about the first incident, which took place on Saturday.

“He joined his friends in the water after watching them for some time.”

Naidu said that when he entered the deeper part of the dam, he experienced difficulty staying afloat and then drowned.

In the second incident, a 20-year-old woman drowned in a dam on Applekloof Farm in Louterwater on Saturday afternoon.

She apparently went into the dam to swim with her family, but began to struggle when she reached the middle of the dam.

Her body was recovered on Sunday morning. - Sapa
