Ticket sales for the Johannesburg leg of US rock band sensation Linkin Park’s world tour was “absolutely phenomenal”, organisers said on Thursday

“Linkin Park has been one of the strongest sellers we have witnessed, and we therefore strongly urge fans to get their tickets before they are all snapped up,” said John Langford, chief operations officer for Big Concerts.

Tickets for the Johannesburg venue went on sale at 9am on Thursday, following a pre-sale event for Linkin Park Underground fans on Tuesday.

Langford said Golden Circle tickets were sold out within seven minutes of going on sale on Thursday morning.

He said no major incidents were reported from ticket vendor Computicket.

The band, from Agoura Hills, in California, would perform two stadium concerts - one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg in November. Durban was excluded as a touring city over questions regarding its financial viability as a venue.

The band, formed in 1996, shot to fame in 2000 with their debut album “Hybrid Theory”.

In June, they released their fifth studio album titled “Living Things”.
