Some of the Lephalale floods victims have started returning to their homes, the Limpopo Housing and Local Government Department said on Tuesday.

"The water has began to subside, we hope that in four day's times life will be back to normal for the residents," department spokesperson Clayson Monyela said.

He said 300 families were affected.

Thirteen houses were completely destroyed and 200 needed to be repaired.

"The department will rebuild the destroyed houses and repair the rest."

Three villages - Thabo Mbeki Village, Shongwane 1 and 2 - were affected by flood waters in the town.

Local Government and Housing MEC Maite Nkoana-Mashabane visited the area earlier on Tuesday and gave residents blankets and food parcels.

The victims were temporarily accommodated in local halls and tents, said Monyela. - Sapa
