Johannesburg – The body of an infant girl, believed to be about one-year-old was found on Thursday in a river near Roosewall Plot Road, near Bloemfontein in the Free State, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that paramedics were called by local authorities who received the call from the farmer who spotted the body.

“Search and Rescue, along with ER24 paramedics, found the body of the child lying amongst some rocks along the river,” he said.

“On assessment, it was clear that the child had been dead for some time. Nothing more could be done for the patient and she was declared dead on scene.”

He said that details around the incident were not known and police were investigating.
