Johannesburg - Independent Media yesterday announced the resignation of its chief content officer, Karima Brown.

Brown, who decided to take leave of her position for personal reasons, had been integral to the transformation and change initiatives at Independent Media.

Executive chairman of Independent Media, Dr Iqbal Surve, expressed his deep regret and thanked her for the invaluable role she had played since the acquisition of Independent Media by the Sekunjalo-led consortium.

“Karima’s departure is a great loss for Independent Media. She will remain a close friend, confidant and dear comrade. I am forever grateful to Karima for her immense contribution to our vision and the transformation of the media in this country. Independent Media will always be a home for her,” said Surve

“I wish to thank Dr Surve for an invaluable opportunity to help shape the transformation agenda in the media, and for all the lessons learnt, fierce debates and the courage to be brave.

“I support Dr Surve on our insistence as black professionals that we deserve to tell our stories on our own terms, and in our own words, in the South African media.

“A multiplicity of narratives is not just possible, but critical to the media transformation agenda,” Brown said.
