Johannesburg – A 28-year-old bus driver who was flung through the windscreen after a collision with a truck on the N12 in Westonaria, west of Johannesburg, died on the scene.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said when paramedics arrived just before 11pm on Tuesday night they found a man near the wheels of the truck with fatal injuries.

"Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene."

Vermaak said it was evident that the bus had crashed into the side of the truck.

He said a large hole in the windscreen of the bus suggested that the driver was flung through on impact.

The driver landed near the wheels of the truck.

He said the bus was empty at the time of the collision and that the truck driver was unhurt.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
