More than 90 people were injured in a train accident outside Springs on Friday, Gauteng paramedics said.

“We have 95 patients, seven were seriously injured. The rest sustained moderate to minor injuries,” Netcare911 spokesman Jeff Wicks said.

There were no fatalities.

It was not clear what caused the accident and there were no other vehicles involved.

The train was on its way to Benoni when the accident occurred on top of a bridge on Paul Kruger Highway around 6pm. - Sapa
