Johannesburg - Water tankers have been dispatched to areas in Ekurhuleni suffering water shortages, the city said on Tuesday.

“Parts of Ekurhuleni are experiencing water supply interruptions due to erratic water supply from Rand Water, the bulk supplier,” said Ekurhuleni municipality spokesman Mandlakazi Mpahlwa-Sigcawu said.

“While other areas such as Benoni, Germiston and Tsakane have begun receiving water, Bedfordview and Primrose remain without water supply.”

Kempton Park was also affected by the water shortage.

Mpahlwa-Sigcawu said the tankers would be available daily between 7am and 8pm until the water supply problem was sorted out.

“As Rand Water and Ekurhuleni engineers are continuously working around the clock to bring the situation back to normal, we wish to emphasise on our call to residents to assist the process by using the little available water sparingly.”

Citizens were requested to refrain from all forms of irrigation, washing of vehicles, and filling up of swimming pools.
